I’m a CPA. I have my bachelor’s in accounting and my master’s in accounting. I work for a relatively big firm in NYC and live in Manhattan. I’ve been pretty lucky as to what’s been given to me and what I’ve earned with all my hard work. I’ve been out of school for almost 2 years……..and almost every single day at work since…..I’ve hated it.
I didn’t think I’d hate what I would do, I never thought I would love it either, just thought that I’d be content with it. But no, I actually hate it. The job is ridiculously boring, and it’s so redundant. I do the same thing for each client I have over and over again and I’m not learning much at all. This career is definitely challenging and there is a lot of room of growth………but not for me! I’m slowly starting to realize that I’m not the typical 9-5 kind of person.
I’ve had a passion for music since I can remember, I DJ’d a lot through college and it was a very passionate hobby of mine and well-paying at that. I’m not saying I wnat to DJ as a career because ultimately I do want a career in business (not just accounting as I’m now realizing).
I’m only 27, only been working for 1.5 years, so maybe I’m thinking too much…….but all I know is…..I hate my job, I hate what my superiors do and feel no excitement to get promoted and do what they do.
I need a career in which I can learn differnet foundations of business and then make an informed decisoin in which way I want to specialize. I only did accounting in school because it was the most respectable business major, not because I wanted to be an accountant my entire life!
I hate my job, yet I’m too lazy to beef up my resume and get active. I’ve put myself in this complacent rut….and I’m not really trying hard to climb out of it.
Hate my job……..not much of an outlook on where to head next……..and still not doing anything about it!
